Updated June 23, 2005   Bradford, Pennsylvania - The number of unusual large animal deaths since 2002 in Argentina and Chile keeps climbing. I talked with Scott Corrales, Editor and Translator of Inexplicata, the Journal of Spanish Ufology, based in Bradford, Pennsylvania. Scott received his M. A. in Spanish Literature from Rutgers University. Scott's website, Inexplicata, provides Spanish-to-English translations about UFO-related incidents in Mexico, Central and South America.

“Junk DNA” That’s Not Junk

“This event in the vertebrates that created the ultra conserved elements in the birth of the vertebrate lineages was a unique event. …It cannot be a coincidence that there have been so few changes in these (vertebrate 481 ‘junk DNA’) elements over this enormous span of half a billion years. It’s got to be that they are functionally important.”

– David Haussler, Ph.D., UC-Santa Cruz

June 25, 2005   Santa Cruz, California – A biomolecular engineer at the University of California in Santa Cruz was published in a recent Science journal stating his lab has found 481 genetic sequences that are the same in all vertebrates from humans to rats and are so important they have not changed in nearly half a billion years. But until now, those genes were considered “junk DNA.”Click for report.

A Harmless Virus Kills Cancer Cells

June 24, 2005   Hershey, Pennsylvania - A scientist at Penn State College of Medicine in Pennsylvania announced at a recent meeting of the American Society for Virology that his lab has killed cancer cells with a virus called "adeno-associated virus type 2," or AAV-2.

The AAV-2 virus has killed a variety of cancer cells in Petrie dishes investigated by Dr. Craig Meyers, Prof. of Microbiology and Immunology at Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, Pennsylvania. This cancer-killing virus infects 80% of the human population. If the AAV-2 virus is so prevalent, why isn't it killing cancers all the time in people? I asked Dr. Meyers what activates the virus to kill cancer cells in his laboratory?

Mars Express Orbiter with MARSIS radar antennae unfurled in orbit around Mars. Illustration by ESA.

June 23, 2005   Darmstadt, Germany - I learned something amazing today from the Mars Express Orbiter Spacecraft Operations Manager. He is Michel Denis based at the European Space Agency's office in Darmstadt, Germany. I was getting an update about the plans for the deep ground-penetrating radar on ESA's Mars Express Orbiter which was turned on for the first time at 3 p.m. Pacific. The amazing fact I learned was that a month ago on May 7th, the Mars Express Orbiter and NASA's two spacecraft, the Odyssey and the Mars Global Surveyor could have collided!

CDC Reports First 2005 Human Case of West Nile Virus in Kansas

"In a CDC study to be published next month in July 2005, an estimated 10% of Americans who develop the most severe form of West Nile disease will have polio-like paralysis. Many patients are in their 30s to 50s. The growing paralysis problems are of great concern, as well as the death toll. Since 1999, CDC has counted more than 16,600 human cases and 654 deaths." - 060205 Earthfiles

Part 14: UFO Crash/Retrievals: Status Report III – Amassing The Evidence

"It is quite legitimate to assume that on other planets dinosaurs lived on to with the high intelligence necessary for interplanetary travel."

- Dale Russell, Ph.D., National Museum of Natural History, Ottawa, Canada.

To be more computer-friendly, the reprint has been divided into parts. Here begins Part 14 of Status Report III, written in June 1982. The series of  status reports, I through VII, were written by Leonard H. Stringfield from 1978 to 1994. Previous Status Report IV begins at Earthfiles 021205. Leonard Stringfield died on December 18, 1994.

Leonard H. Stringfield:

THE OMNIPRESENT I.I.I.

"Always present in my work is the I.I.I., or less cryptically, the 'Invisible Inside Informant.' New ones surface from time to time as old ones fade away. Sometimes on my wish, like a storybook genie, they respond with supposedly 'inside' UFO information ostensibly to help my cause in research. Usually, known by only a first name or as in one case, just as 'Uncle,' their backgrounds as UFO savants vary. Some allegedly serve, or have served, in the Intelligence community. One is a medical doctor and some are too shifty to be pinned down. The I.I.I. are always polite, are not always readily reachable and are evasive when I ask for a one-to-one meeting. As to their motives, I can only guess. Maybe some are just tired of secrecy and genuinely want to help. But others I can see as plants who are a part of a plan to either spoon feed information as a test of public reaction or are to set up a disinformation trap. In the end of the spectrum is the KGB who is interested in the progress of a duplication of a saucer-like craft by the U. S. military.

June 17, 2005   Paradise Hill, Saskatchewan, Canada – Rancher Ray Riguidel, 68, was born and raised in Saint Walburg, Saskatchewan, Canada, northwest of Saskatoon. The past thirty-five years he has run cattle on pastures in both Saint Walburg and nearby Paradise Hill. Part 13: UFO Crash/Retrievals: Status Report III – Amassing The Evidence

“…Wilbert Smith (Canadian engineer) was provided, for research purposes, a fragment allegedly obtained from an alien craft which had been shot off by USAF interceptors near Washington, D. C., in July 1952.”

Part I – Highly Anomalous Pigment Formation in 2004 Hillsboro, Ohio, Crop Formation

June 2, 2005 Grass Lake, Michigan - In a Hillsboro, Ohio, garden back on July 5, 2004, corn plants were discovered by home owners to be mysteriously flattened in a rough rectangular pattern without any storm links or other natural explanations. Jeffrey Wilson, Director, Independent Crop Circle Researchers Association (ICCRA), in Ohio, forwarded to me an e-mail from the Hillsboro, Ohio, residents, along with a photograph of their affected garden plot of corn. The owners wrote:

"We have what most would refer to as a 'crop circle' in our garden plot of corn. We noticed it yesterday (July 5, 2004). We have contacted the local sheriff's department and he said it did not look like vandalism to him, but rather some type of natural or unexplained phenomena. No one has stepped into it yet, as I thought it might be of interest to someone."
